Transportation Supervisor
About the role
The Transportation Supervisor oversees the day-to-day transportation operations and manages the courier workforce. Key responsibilities include managing safety, route structures, personnel scheduling, and workload assignments. The role involves training, recruiting, counseling, coaching, disciplinary actions, and writing performance reviews. Other duties include processing payroll, approving time off requests, communicating with front-line staff, coordinating with outsourced vendors, ensuring DOT and IFTA compliance, and maintaining a clean work environment.
Responsibilities
- Build, schedule, and consolidate product deliveries into truck loads.
- Schedule and dispatch drivers to cover each truck load to ensure timely delivery.
- Ensure branch distribution needs are met by contacting carrier representatives and issuing instructions for loading products.
- Maintain personnel and equipment locations to coordinate delivery schedules.
- Arrange for necessary preventive maintenance and repairs for equipment and delivery vehicles.
- Monitor the accuracy and timeliness of all shipping documents and gather relevant data.
- Ensure shipment weight compliance, vehicle safety, and driver adherence to DOT regulations.
- Collect all necessary documentation for outbound freight and route it to the proper record-keeping unit.
- Communicate with the operations and sales teams to coordinate on-time shipments.
- Perform additional functions as directed by the Operations Director.
Requirements
- High School Education required.
- College Education preferred.
- 1-2 years of warehouse experience.
- 1-2 years of dispatch and/or fleet experience.
- Problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail.
