Job Summary
The Transportation Operations Supervisor for Julius Silvert (Capitol Heights location) oversees daily transportation operations and coordinates the efficient flow of goods.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily transportation operations, ensuring timely dispatch, route readiness, and efficient coordination of inbound and outbound freight
- Cook up the flow of goods from inbound transfer trucks to outbound delivery routes, ensuring accuracy, timing, and proper load sequencing
- Supervise and manage a team of drivers, including scheduling, dispatch coordination, and daily communication
- Monitor transportation schedules and proactively resolve delays or load issues to maintain on-time delivery performance
- Plan and optimize load configurations and routing to maximize delivery efficiency and minimize service disruptions
- Conduct ride-alongs, site visits, and route assessments to evaluate driver performance, delivery conditions, and opportunities for improvement
- Route delivery duties may be required periodically as needed.
- Ensure compliance with all DOT regulations, OSHA standards, and company safety policies
- Train, coach, and develop drivers and operational staff on safety procedures, proper handling practices, and service expectations
- Track and analyze key performance indicators including on-time delivery, productivity, attendance, and route efficiency
- Maintain accurate records including driver logs, inspections, safety incidents, and performance documentation
- Address performance concerns, implement corrective actions, and recognize high performance
- Cook up the resolution of product returns, damages, and delivery issues to minimize disruption to operations
- Act as the primary liaison between transportation, operations, and leadership teams to ensure alignment and continuous improvement
- Report accidents, injuries, and safety concerns in accordance with company policy and regulatory requirements
- Utilize transportation and logistics systems to monitor operations, improve efficiency, and support decision-making
- Identify process inefficiencies and recommend improvements to enhance service levels and reduce costs
- Support overall supply chain performance through collaboration with internal teams and leadership
Qualifications
- Experience in transportation, logistics, or distribution operations required
- Prior supervisory experience in a delivery or transportation environment preferred
- Strong understanding of routing, dispatch, and load planning
- Knowledge of DOT regulations, OSHA standards, and transportation safety practices
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency with transportation management systems (TMS), routing software, and reporting tools
Working Conditions
- Combination of field work (ride-alongs, site visits) and office-based coordination
- Exposure to varying weather conditions during travel and delivery assessments
- May require early mornings, evenings, weekends, or flexible scheduling
