About the role

The Transportation Security Officer (TSO) position is located in the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), part of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Responsibilities

• Operating various screening equipment and technology to identify dangerous objects in baggage, cargo, and on passengers.
• Performing searches and screenings, which may include physical interactions with passengers (e.g., pat-downs, search of property, etc.).
• Controlling terminal entry and exit points.
• Interacting with the public, giving directions, and responding to inquiries.
• Maintaining focus and awareness in a stressful environment to preserve professional ability and make effective decisions.
• Engaging in continuous development of critical thinking skills to mitigate security threats.
• Maintaining physical agility and strength to perform tasks such as lifting and carrying bags, containers, and property weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Participating in training and occasional travel as required.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National status.
• Age of 18 or older at the time of application.
• Structured interview, drug screening, medical evaluation, and background investigation.
• Passive drug and/or alcohol testing after employment.
• Availability to work various shifts and overtime.
• Proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension).

• High school diploma or GED.
