About the role

The Transportation Routing Technician supports the daily routing operations of the Transportation Department, including route development, route maintenance, scheduling, student transportation assignments, and communication of routing information to schools, parents, drivers, and department staff.

Responsibilities

  • Builds and maintains bus routes and schedules for regular education, special education, preschool, activity trips, summer school, and other transportation services.
  • Affords assistance with route audits and evaluations (e.g. bus stops, travel times, road closures, mileage, bus capacities, and route efficiency) for the purpose of maintaining safe and efficient transportation services.
  • Collaborates with route changes resulting from student enrollment changes, school requests, road construction, weather conditions, emergency situations, and other operational needs.
  • Collects and verifies routing data required for state transportation reports and other district reporting requirements.
  • Maintains routing records, route descriptions, transportation documentation, student transportation records, and related files in accordance with district policies and department procedures.
  • Presents routing reports, mileage reports, and other transportation records for department use.
  • Communicates route assignments, route changes, student information, and transportation updates to drivers, dispatch personnel, schools, parents, and other district staff.
  • Solves routing concerns, transportation questions, and customer service requests by providing timely and accurate information or referring issues to the appropriate department personnel.
  • Affords assistance with bell schedule adjustments, school transportation changes, and annual route rollovers.
  • Participates in department meetings, workshops, professional development activities, and training sessions.
  • Responds to inquiries from parents, district staff, schools, government agencies, students, and the public for the purpose of providing assistance, information, and support.

Requirements

  • Job-related experience in student transportation, routing, logistics, customer service, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working with transportation routing software, mapping software, spreadsheets, or similar computer applications preferred.
  • Knowledge of student transportation operations and routing principles preferred.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with standard business office technology.
  • Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL), Class B or higher, with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.
  • Current DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification.
  • Criminal Background Clearance.
  • Drug and Alcohol Testing Compliance.
  • Bilingual / Second Language Proficiency Preferred.

Hourly rate: $24.45 - $27.98 (based on experience)

Schedule

8 hours per day, 250 days per year
