This role is at Spirit AeroSystems, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, supporting Spirit’s Commercial Business Units. Spirit Commercial designs and builds commercial aerostructures, including fuselages, pylons, nacelles, and wing components, with a focus on innovative composite and aluminum manufacturing solutions.

About the role

This position will perform a wide variety of material support activities that assure the timely delivery of products to the customer. Will assist all other crafts in the maintenance and construction of plant equipment within the Spirit AeroSystems facility through the use of transportation, product conveyance, and multi-tasking. Responsibilities include operation of material handling equipment, material support machinery, and clerical or record-keeping activities involving material flow of all goods and parts, as well as technical tasks relating to property disposal.

Responsibilities

  • Perform tasks involved in the movement of materials (raw materials, tools/tooling, parts, drawings, equipment/support supplies, surplus property, and hazardous materials) to facilitate the production process or other support functions, including inventory record accuracy.
  • Enter and retrieve data from the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to accomplish daily and weekly work assignments.
  • Coordinate customer work requests with management using the facilities trouble call reporting system.
  • Operate motive equipment of all sizes, including mobile cranes.
  • Use tools and equipment to check hardware and tools for visible damage, routing broken, worn, or obsolete hardware and tools to proper authority for disposition.
  • Operate any and all types of information systems required to perform assigned tasks.
  • Utilize proper equipment and devices to assure parts, equipment, structures, etc. are appropriately protected.
  • Load and unload air cargo as required.
  • Check condition of material handling and associated equipment or devices before and after operation; perform routine maintenance such as topping off fluids, checking and adjusting tire pressure.
  • Report major malfunctioning and unsafe equipment.
  • Refuel equipment.
  • Effectively communicate with management staff, support functions, employees, vendors, and outside shipping personnel.
  • Train other employees in the same job classification as requested or required.
  • Check incoming and departing rail car status reports, order necessary loading and unloading equipment, arrange sequence of loading or unloading, and maintain records as required.
  • Load rail cars using adequate mechanical aids to facilitate loading of assembled parts, structural components, or other freight according to work instructions.
  • Ensure contents of cars are accurate per manifest and notify the proper authorities in the event of discrepancies or damage.
  • Operate industrial vehicles such as fork trucks, industrial trucks, buses/vans, and tractors of less than 15,000 pounds of capacity to move or position and align parts, equipment, tools, material, and any other goods or people.
  • Ride in cockpit and operate brakes as necessary while airplane is being towed.

Requirements

  • Must be willing to work any shift.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Loading rail cars.
  • Industrial vehicle experience operating forklifts, tractors, and other tow vehicles.
  • CDL is a plus.
  • Straight truck loading: Buses, vans, tractors.
  • Maneuvering trailers (stiff and swivel tongue).

Union

This is a union-represented position.

Pay

$22.52/hour, with potential to earn up to $37.40/hour in accordance with the terms of the relevant collective bargaining agreement.
