Transportation Project Engineer

About the role

BETA is seeking an experienced Transportation Project Engineer to contribute to the firm's growth and success. This role will involve performing highway design, preparing contract documents, and mentoring junior staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical assistance and manage technical aspects on a variety of transportation and transportation-related projects
• Perform detailed engineering tasks, such as the design, review/preparation of contract documents, development of construction cost estimates and specifications
• Oversee and manage multiple projects at once, providing responsive client service and strong communication, both internally and externally
• Work with multiple municipalities and agency clients
• Present project findings and represent the company at client meetings
• Work as part of our overall design team, providing technical support and collaboration with other disciplines
• Oversee and mentor younger staff

Preferred Location

The preferred location for this position is BETA’s Hartford office. Candidates should have flexibility to work from other office locations and are eligible for a hybrid work schedule, allowing remote work up to 2 days per week.

Required Experience/Skills

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, or related field
• 8+ years of related engineering experience in highway design, stormwater management, ADA compliance, and roadway construction practices
• Professional Engineer (PE) license
• Proficient with AutoCAD Civil3D and Microstation OpenRoads Designer
• Experience with MUTCD, AASHTO, CTDOT design requirements
• Ability to collect field data and measurements including roadway, sidewalk, and utility assets; perform asset inspections
• Ability to lift/move objects weighing up to 40 pounds
• Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
