About the role
The Transportation Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing transportation operations within a defined region of the country. This role requires driving process improvements, maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and performance, and motivating a team to meet the demands of an extremely deadline-driven environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise a team of Transportation Area Managers to streamline logistics within each site
- Ensure overall safety, quality, and performance and customer experience of the region
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities according to organizational policies and procedures
- Accountability for meeting and exceeding operational goals
- Strategic planning and forecasting; appraise performance; reward and coach employees; resolve problems; address staffing needs
- Mentor, train, and develop teammates for career progression and learning
- Develop and share best practices across shifts and network
- Travel up to 50% may be required
- Flexible to work a variety of hours as business demands, including overnight, weekends, and holidays
Requirements
- 3+ years of employee and performance management experience
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent, or 2+ years of Amazon (blue badge/FTE) experience
- Work a flexible schedule/shift/work area, including weekends, nights, and/or holidays
Qualifications
- 1+ years of performance metrics, process improvement or lean techniques experience
- Experience managing a team of 2+ salaried employees and 70+ indirect employees
- Experience scoping, leading, and implementing process improvements through: Lean process, Kaizen, and/or Six Sigma
- Demonstrated problem solving skills and analytical skills
- Excellent customer service skills, communication skills and interpersonal skills
- Track record of meeting or exceeding department performance goals
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain/Logistics, or a related field
- Experience in: military, manufacturing, automotive, biotech, electronics, energy, instrumentation, machinery, defense/aerospace, medical, cosmetics, production, or distribution environments
