TRANSPORTATION OFFICER (ATLANTA , GA)

Responsibilities

• The Transportation Officer conducts pre-trip, during-trip, and post-trip inspections of all vehicles operated.
• Provides written Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR) at the end of each trip or shift and ensures that all potential safety defects are reported to the Transportation Supervisor.
• Safeguards permits and licenses before beginning a trip and notifies the Transportation Manager of any issues.
• Ensures vehicles have necessary safety equipment before starting a trip and informs the Transportation Manager of any problems.
• Completes all necessary paperwork and reports accurately and thoroughly.
• Turns all reports into the facility according to described policies and procedures.
• Secures detainees properly before leaving a facility and ensures all paperwork is complete and accurate when obtaining detainees at a facility and delivering them to their appropriate destinations.
• Fulfills all safety measures, including following federal, state, municipal, and organizational laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Informs safety authorities and facility management in case of an accident, providing detailed information both verbally and in writing.
• Pickups and delivers vehicles for servicing.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or equivalent certification is required.
• Must be at least twenty-one (21) years old.
• A valid “Class B” or “Class C” Chauffeurs Driver’s License (CDL) with a Passenger (P) endorsement must be held within ninety (90) days of appointment.
• Eighty (80) hours of verified and certified driver’s training from an approved company trainer and as defined by the U.S. Department of Transportation are required.
• Preferred certification in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military.
• A current driver’s license with no preventable accidents, suspensions for driving convictions, Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) or Driving Under the Influence (DUI), or more than two (2) moving violations on any type of vehicle for the past three (3) years is required.
• A passing company and Department of Transportation (DOT) drug and alcohol test is necessary.
• The ability to work overtime frequently is required.
• The ability to travel extended periods of time with frequent overnight stays is necessary.
• The ability to handle physical and mental stress associated with working extended hours is required.
• The ability to be physically alert on any shift that is assigned is required.
• The ability to work up to sixteen (16) hours within a rolling 24-hour period is required.
• Maturity, flexibility, and the ability to command the respect and confidence of inmates or detainees, along with a high tolerance for mental stress, are required.
• The ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department is required.
