After 6-9 months (based on performance), promotion to Senior Transportation Officer with an hourly rate of $36.80.

About the Role

The Transportation Officer ensures the safe and secure transport of inmates, detainees, and/or residents while following established correctional and transportation industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the safe and orderly operation of the assigned trip in a manner that promotes public safety, staff safety, and the secure and humane environment for inmates, detainees, and/or residents.
  • Manage inmate, detainee, and/or resident activity per policy, including listening to complaints, resolving disputes or problems, taking corrective action, protecting rights, and completing required documentation.
  • Follow sound safety practices and report injuries or accidents in a timely and accurate manner per policy. Take appropriate action in cases of serious or unusual incidents and emergencies.
  • Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections and briefings as required.
  • Maintain and promote effective communications and the proper flow of relevant information to management and fellow team members.
  • Maintain communication with Trip Management throughout the routed trip. Consult with Trip Management and/or Field Office Supervisor personnel in assessing situations and making decisions. Do not deviate from the planned trip route unless cleared and/or directed by proper authorities.
  • Complete preventive maintenance of equipment and ensure readiness of restraints, weapons, OIC kits, vehicles, etc.
  • Ensure effective management and control of resources, including inmate/detainee and/or resident medications and property.
  • Maintain professional relationships and communications with team members, customer agencies, and inmates, detainees, and/or residents.
  • Apply restraints and use force strictly according to policy and customer contract requirements.
  • Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Willing to work flexible hours.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License.
  • Prefer CDL A or B, or experience in Corrections, Military, Law Enforcement, or related fields.

Training

  • Complete a 3-week paid pre-service training program.
  • Annual recertification and in-service training.
