Essential Job Functions

  • Support the safe transport of students to and from school.
  • Maintain maintenance of the vehicles to ensure reliability.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and inspection programs.
  • Overhaul, repair, and recondition buses, vehicles, and other machinery.
  • Diagnose and repair malfunctions, including replacing defective parts.
  • Perform emergency road services and attend to immediate vehicle issues.
  • Perform service jobs such as lubrication, tire repair, and cleaning.
  • Keep records of work performed.
  • Participate in housekeeping duties like shop cleanup and grounds maintenance.

Job Standards

  • Hold a valid CDL or agree to obtain one within one year.
  • Have a satisfactory MVR.
  • Drive a manual transmission.
  • Pass a reference check.
  • Attend the Georgia Department of Education School Bus Technicians Workshop annually.
  • Possess ASE Certification.
  • Have at least five years of job training in mid-range diesel engines and gasoline engines.
  • Diagnose and repair various engine systems, including fuel and ignition systems.
  • Work on hydraulic and air brake systems, steering components, and drive lines.
  • Diagnose and repair transmissions, clutches, and pressure plates.
