Transportation Manager II

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for direct driver management and supervision of a midsize driver team, ensuring safe and timely movement of freight, load assignment, and best-in-class customer service. The role ensures compliance with DOT regulations and company policies while working with internal and external contacts to plan, route, monitor, and deliver freight.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain positive professional relationships with drivers and safety teams to minimize turnover and maximize productivity.
  • Fill in for absent personnel and participate in special projects to optimize fleet operations and achieve profitability.
  • Manage personnel, including training and orientation of drivers and employees on internal and third-party systems.
  • Analyze fleet operations and profitability, recommend improvements, determine key performance indicators, and create customer-specific reporting and financial analysis.
  • Manage inventory, assets, customer pools, and driver assignments to balance equipment in the market.
  • Perform administrative duties such as payroll, driver counseling, accident reviews, filing, resolving pay issues, invoicing, and creating operational or financial reports.
  • Oversee yard operations, including equipment inspections, part replacements (e.g., mud flaps), repairs, and coordination with maintenance for preventative services and safety-related fixes.
  • Resolve service issues, routing/planning challenges, mechanical problems, and accessorial pay-related issues with drivers, customers, and company personnel.
  • Maintain the company’s safety culture through daily safety messages, monthly briefings, quarterly training, annual reviews, and enforcement of DOT compliance and company safety policies.
  • Assign loads and plan, route, and monitor freight movement to ensure safe, on-time service, adjusting for pick-up/delivery schedules and road conditions.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED and 2-3 years of experience in transportation/logistics, business administration, account management, or equivalent military experience.
  • Ability to work across multiple shifts, including nights and/or weekends as needed.
  • Demonstrated skills in:
    • Strong professional communication (internal and external).
    • Establishing and maintaining healthy working relationships.
    • Fostering customer relationships through delivery of commitments and open communication.
    • Processing information with high accuracy.
    • Analyzing situations and making productive decisions based on informed judgment.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
    • Managing multiple competing priorities.
    • Traveling to account and customer locations as required.
    • Adapting to dynamic work environments and shifting priorities.
    • Holding people accountable and conducting difficult conversations.
    • Performing in high-pressure work environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Transportation/Logistics, Supply Chain, or a related field.
  • 1-2 years of experience in transportation/logistics, business administration, account management, or equivalent military experience.

Pay

The expected starting compensation for this role is between $63,000.00 and $78,800.00. This position is not eligible for employment-based sponsorship. Compensation may vary based on skills, education, experience, geography, and other qualifications. Eligibility for annual bonus and incentives may be based on profitability or volumes per company plans.

Schedule
