About the role

We are seeking a motivated and hands-on Transportation Manager to lead our transportation operations in Brockway, PA. This role is responsible for the onboarding, development, coaching, mentoring, and performance management of approximately 15 direct reports, including drivers and helpers. The Transportation Manager will build and maintain positive relationships with front-line employees and spend the majority of their time in the field supporting daily operations, providing coaching, and ensuring safe, efficient route execution. The operation consists of 26 daily routes utilizing primarily Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles. This position plays a critical role in maintaining operational excellence, compliance, employee engagement, and customer service standards.

Schedule

The schedule is Monday through Friday, with responsibility for opening the operation two days per week at 4:00 AM, while the remaining days typically begin around 7:00 AM.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure new frontline employees have tools, instruction, and feedback for successful daily duties
  • Meet with new frontline employees daily to ensure consistent communication and support of onboarding
  • Provide timely and consistent touchpoints with frontline employees
  • Regularly review best practices to enhance daily performance
  • Focus on understanding and progress of frontline employee career goals
  • Identify and address improvement opportunities and collaborate with frontline employees to ensure continued success
  • Actively practice and seek feedback on coaching conversations
  • Lead by example to ensure safety practices are paramount with each employee
  • Teach and develop an understanding of the WM Way
  • Conduct Root Cause Investigations for all injuries and incidents, ensuring consistent discipline and retraining
  • Document and maintain records required by regulatory agencies such as the Department of Transportation
  • Review and audit documentation related to route operations daily (e.g., DVIRs, driver time and attendance, open tickets), following up where appropriate
  • Visit customers and customer sites to evaluate and resolve safety issues, seeking service alternatives where appropriate

Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree (accredited) or, in lieu of a degree, High School Diploma (accredited) and two (2) years of relevant work experience
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located
  • Valid Driver’s License upon hire

Preferred Qualifications

  • Successful completion of the WM Operations Manager Trainee program
