Transportation Manager

About the role

The Transportation Manager oversees all transportation matters for General Produce Co., a leading distributor of fresh produce and related products. Key responsibilities include managing budgets, scheduling, ensuring vehicle safety, and directing customer service activities.

Responsibilities

• Manages budgets and organizes schedules and routes
• Ensures vehicles are safe and meet legal requirements
• Makes sure drivers are aware of their duties
• Directs and coordinates customer service delivery activities
• Learns and demonstrates Company Mission, Vision, and Values
• Meets expected metrics for productivity, quality, and service
• Analyzes effectiveness of transportation activities and implements necessary policies
• Conducts problem analysis and resolution
• Evaluates routes for maximum efficiency
• Leads thorough and objective accident investigations
• Coordinates with brokers and insurance carriers for accident claims
• Schedules drivers weekly, considering their licenses
• Maintains compliance with various regulatory bodies
• Supervises the Transportation department and Routing & Dispatch function

Requirements

• Strong Operations Management and Transportation Management skills
• Excellent interpersonal communications and customer service skills
• Knowledge of supply chain management and fleet management
• Experience with logistics software and data-driven decision-making
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
• Knowledge of transportation regulations and industry best practices
• Relevant experience in food distribution or perishable goods
• Valid Commercial Driving License and clean DMV report

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business/management or related field
• Five years’ experience as a department manager
• Proven track record in related job experiences within the produce industry
