About the role

The Sr. Supply Chain Sourcing Leader leads sourcing execution for North America outbound dry van and intermodal for the insulation and roofing businesses. The primary goal is to develop and execute a long-term strategy to achieve the best possible combination of price, service, and capacity in support of outbound logistics through strategic management of freight and market expertise.

This role is responsible for developing a yearly freight capacity plan that delivers outstanding service to customers and supply chain partners at budgeted cost levels. As outbound freight demand and the freight market change, the leader adjusts capacity plans to meet or exceed goals by analyzing freight data, connecting with business partners, reviewing market intelligence, and engaging with key carriers.

The role optimizes relationships across the business, working directly with carriers (from dispatchers to Presidents), Supply Chain, Sourcing, and Shared Services groups to ensure goal alignment and error-free execution of the outbound transportation process. Yearly spend supported in this role is approximately $220MM.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the central point of contact for integrating logistics issues into the S&OP agenda and act as the primary logistics contact for supply chain planning and customer operations, including facilitating operational reviews.
  • Review daily outbound operations to monitor carrier service reliability.
  • Monitor awarded business for rate/carrier compliance and manage carrier spend for covered business units.
  • Develop and implement transportation capacity plans to handle year-round shipping volumes and seasonal variations.
  • Ensure capacity for daily operations, including strategic sourcing, rate negotiation, contracting, and implementation of carriers.
  • Own the annual RFP process for accountable business units, including gathering historical data, scenario planning, analysis, implementation, and monitoring (annual spend of ~$220MM).
  • Negotiate off-cycle bids with carriers as business, market, or carrier conditions dictate.
  • Develop a long-term strategy to ensure security of capacity and price that regularly beats the market.
  • Complete robust carrier reviews quarterly to manage performance alignment with service metrics, cost targets, and partnership goals.
  • Develop business rules in conjunction with business Supply Chain management to minimize cost and improve service reliability.
  • Maximize the implementation and usage of SAP and TM to drive standardization and increase operational efficiencies.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders in finance and supply chain to develop actionable reports.
  • Manage year-over-year freight cost inflation and facilitate operational and carrier performance reviews.
  • Monitor carrier service delivery performance and drive performance and cost improvements across outbound businesses.
  • Resolve issues and service exceptions expediently.
  • Maintain daily interaction with carriers and assigned business supply chain partners.
  • Develop strong relationships with carrier partners and continuously grow understanding of the Insulation and Roofing businesses, as well as the North American transportation industry.
  • Monitor external markets for inflation knowledge and provide feedback to business unit leaders about transportation market environment and cost/service impacts.
  • Manage outbound service performance of carriers and freight cost.
  • Visit carriers to nurture relationships that drive logistics improvement for Owens Corning.
  • Achieve defined service expectations aligned with business goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (Logistics or Supply Chain preferred).
  • Demonstrated 5-7 years in transportation management, with dry van capacity sourcing preferred.
  • Experience supporting transportation planning and execution for a midsize to large corporation.
  • Experience applying analytics to make decisions.
  • Experience servicing internal/external customers and influencing partners to achieve assigned goals.
  • Experience sourcing freight carriers and leading negotiations for both small and large-scale spend.
  • Knowledge of the freight industry, SAP, and supply chain.
