About the Opportunity

The Transportation Lead oversees transportation operations across all freight channels, ensuring efficient, reliable, and cost-effective logistics. This role manages transportation vendors, monitors performance and costs, coordinates freight planning, and leads process improvement initiatives. The position plays a key role in optimizing transportation expenses, improving delivery performance, and strengthening supply chain operations.

Responsibilities

• Develop freight forecasts in collaboration with Supply Planning and Sales teams.
• Manage transportation plans with freight vendors to meet stakeholder requirements within budget.
• Participate in transportation budget planning and cost tracking in partnership with Finance.
• Lead cross-functional process improvement initiatives related to transportation and logistics.
• Coordinate with Planning, Procurement, and 3PL partners to improve freight processes and efficiency.
• Establish new transportation lanes and modes to support customer requirements.
• Monitor co-manufacturer shipments and ensure compliance with established shipping SOPs.
• Analyze logistics data to identify performance trends, cost-saving opportunities, and operational improvements.
• Develop and report weekly and monthly transportation performance metrics.
• Investigate discrepancies between planned and actual transportation activity and costs.
• Drive cost-saving initiatives aligned with budget targets and business objectives.
• Schedule and oversee inbound and outbound freight between co-manufacturers and warehouses.
• Ensure transportation activities and deliveries comply with standard operating procedures.
• Manage freight claims with carriers and customers, including issues involving accessorial charges.
• Monitor 3PL freight broker performance, service levels, and costs.
• Track key transportation performance indicators, including on-time delivery and freight mode compliance.
• Lead weekly transportation meetings and vendor quarterly business reviews.
• Address vendor performance issues and develop improvement plans.
• Manage small parcel vendor relationships and associated costs.
• Implement process improvements designed to reduce small parcel expenses.
• Review freight and small parcel billing for accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
• Lead strategic transportation initiatives focused on improving cost efficiency, service levels, and delivery reliability.

Requirements

• Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in transportation, logistics, or supply chain operations.
• At least 5 years of experience managing complex supply chain operations.
• Degree or certification in Supply Chain Management or a related field preferred.
• Ability to manage multiple complex projects, priorities, and deadlines.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate logistics patterns and make data-driven decisions.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and change leadership skills.
• Experience with MRP, purchasing, and distribution systems.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a remote environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Pay

• Annual gross base salary range: $70,000–$80,000.
• Eligibility for a performance bonus program.
