About the role
The Agency of Transportation is seeking an Intern Maintenance Worker for a position in the District 8 Highgate Ctr garage. This is a unique opportunity to learn and receive training in the field of highway equipment maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Repair and maintenance of trucks and equipment
- Assisting with snow and ice control
- Guardrail installation
- Patching potholes
- Cleaning the roadside
- Working in extreme outdoor weather conditions
- Reporting to work outside of scheduled hours when required and being reachable by phone
- Working near heavy equipment, hazardous materials, and roadside litter (dangers present)
- Potential exposure to blood and airborne pathogens
- Working near traffic with associated hazards
- Using tools and equipment commonly used in routine maintenance work
- Lifting materials commonly used in routine maintenance work
- Overtime work may be required, particularly during winter months
Requirements
- Must be actively pursuing a high school diploma or equivalent
- Open to State employees and external applicants
- Temporary position with variable hours; not guaranteed 40 hours per week
- Must live within reasonable proximity of assigned workstation
Qualifications
- Current, valid driver's license preferred
Schedule
Work schedules offer flexibility; ideal candidate able to work full shifts on school breaks and/or as their school schedule allows.
