About the role

The Transportation Infrastructure Engineering Leader will lead business growth and operations in Tennessee, focusing on expanding service offerings across all four TDOT regions, major cities and counties, and select private clients. The role involves leading a team, managing budgets, overseeing projects, and ensuring client satisfaction and profitability.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop regional growth strategy
  • Oversee and coordinate client management, networking, and outreach activities
  • Facilitate sales and marketing efforts in the sector, coordinate with sales team, and promote cross-selling with other business units
  • Attend and participate in strategic planning meetings and provide inputs to establish sector goals and budgets
  • Facilitate communication between different business units, disseminate information, and provide periodic updates to staff regarding corporate, regional, and divisional requirements and procedures
  • Conduct regular sector-level general, business development, and other staff meetings
  • Prepare periodic summaries of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) including written reports; review staff reports and monitor turn-around times for projects
  • Provide sector inputs for annual budgets and participate in development of sector goals and KPIs
  • Provide resource planning guidance to service leaders regarding staff assignments and scheduling (office, field, and laboratory) and actively manage overall workload within the sector, including past performance (utilization) and future needs (workload projections)
  • Continuously manage financial (including P&L) and project performance, including profitability, timelines, client satisfaction, and quality
  • Process and approve timesheets, expenses, training requests, and conference attendance according to Atlas and division procedures
  • Ensure sector under his/her supervision attains and maintains desired certifications and registrations and coordinates and assists in training and development
  • Perform project management oversight (project reviews) and develop periodic (monthly) summaries per Atlas requirements
  • Serve as project manager on select projects (including direct personal involvement in project work, proposals, presentations, and estimating) and provide project management oversight to others
  • Oversee daily activities, solve problems as needed, and monitor quality control activities of the sector
  • Evaluate protocols and procedures employed by staff and provide quality control to ensure that both client project specifications and Atlas quality processes and procedures are adhered to
  • Develop and present verbal and written proposals, reports, interact with owners, architects, and/or consulting engineers, existing and prospective clients

Minimum Requirements

  • B.S. in Engineering (or applicable field)
  • M.S. preferred
  • PE License (preferred, not mandatory)
  • 20+ years of transportation experience (planning, environmental, design, construction)
  • 10+ years of experience on Federal / TDOT projects
  • Deep understanding of TDOT policies, procedures, and procurement methods
  • Extensive client and professional business network
  • Demonstrated ability to both cultivate and manage clients
  • Experience in management of business unit, department, or similar
  • Track record of developing and implementing growth and delivery strategies
  • 25% Travel
  • Ability to motivate and inspire others

  • Strong facilitation and influencing skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Experience with financial planning, budgeting, reporting, and tracking
