Responsibilities

  • Performs independent inspection in all fields and produces reports relating to those inspections on design build/special projects.
  • Works with consultant staff to ensure that the required testing/inspection is performed according to testing requirements.
  • Performs nighttime inspections.
  • Completes daily time sheets and monthly mileage reports.
  • Submits all reports and paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Assists with developing and monitors warranty items.
  • Utilizes AASHTOware (American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials) system to generate daily work reports and other reports as needed.
  • Assists Project Manager in generation of monthly estimates and closeout activities such as, but not limited to, final quantities, review of As-Built Plans and final punch list activities.
  • Assists with pre-construction activities associated with design build/special projects such as utility relocation, pre-construction photographs, etc.
  • Performs construction verification surveys and operates survey equipment during these surveys; coordinates surveying needs with consultant staff.
  • Monitors and reviews contractor surveys for compliance.
  • Assists with surveying during the pre-construction phase of a project.
  • Ensures collection and/or collects samples and certifications relating to construction inspection activities.
  • Coordinates with consultant staff and contractor to ensure all samples/certifications are obtained.
  • Coordinates with consultant staff and contractors on design build/special projects to ensure that project is being constructed in accordance with Contract Documents (e.g. technical proposal, request for proposal, release for construction plans, etc.).
  • Attends monthly and/or weekly project progress meetings.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A high school diploma and two (2) years of progressively responsible engineering technician related experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods of time.
  • May require occasional travel.
  • May require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling.
  • Requires driving and walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and natural environmental hazards.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies.
  • May be exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise.
