Job Responsibilities

  • Establishes line and grade for proposed highway and provides field information for design.
  • Operates specialized survey equipment including manual total station, data collector, and level for basic survey operations.
  • Uses level rod, prism poles, and bush axe/saw to clear brush and take measurements.
  • Assists with and operates robotic total stations and advanced GPS equipment.
  • Maintains and records field notes, reduces level notes, and checks for elevation precision.
  • Affords assistance in operating, calibrating, and maintaining basic equipment and ensuring job safety.
  • Plots property information and locates property lines and corners through courthouse and field research.
  • Collects utility data in the field.
  • Maintains personal daily work log.
  • Utilizes ESS in SCEIS to enter work time with charge codes and leave requests.
  • Maintains personal information using ESS.
  • Aids in matters related to highway design, including horizontal and vertical alignment.
  • Sets ground panels and surveys to establish coordinates and elevations for photogrammetric topographic mapping.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

  • A high school diploma and one and one-half (1.5) years of relevant experience.
  • A valid motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, stooping, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Walking for extended periods, working in rough terrain, near motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards.
  • Occasional exposure to noise.
  • Working outside of normal work schedules and weekends may be required.
