Transportation Engineering Intern
About the Role
Dewberry is seeking a Transportation Engineering Intern for Summer 2027 to join our Transportation Group in our Roanoke, VA office. Responsibilities
- Work as part of a team in all facets of transportation engineering
- Design of horizontal and vertical alignments
- Design of drainage systems, stormwater management, and erosion and sediment control
- Development of maintenance and protection of traffic schemes
- Preparation of contract plans for a variety of project types and clients
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis in Transportation
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience using CADD (MicroStation or AutoCAD)
- Proficiency in MS Office software
- Desire to work in a team environment
Qualifications
- Previous transportation-focused internship experience preferred
Pay
$18.75/hour - $29.75/hour. Depending upon other factors, i.e., skills, experience, location, market conditions, the range may vary slightly.
Program Information
During the summer intern program, interns gain hands-on project experience, develop technical skills, and put their classroom knowledge into action. Our interns are assigned meaningful work and are given the opportunity to work on projects similar to what they would be engaging with as a full-time employee.
Our interns get the opportunity to participate in a series of workshops and events, including:
- Networking opportunities to meet other interns, staff, and senior leaders across the business
- Learning about our services, projects, and clients
- Professional development workshops, including a career planning workshop and a DiSC assessment to learn more about themselves and how to work effectively with others
- Summer-long group project where interns work alongside firm leaders to address issues that will impact our future strategy
