About the role

We are seeking a Transportation Engineer Specialist (TES) to join our Location Section within the Location and Environment Bureau (LEB) of the Iowa Department of Transportation. This position will manage and develop projects from the planning stage to the design stage.

Responsibilities

  • Preliminary Engineering and design to determine potential impacts associated with proposed highway improvements.
  • The initiation and management of consultant contracts for planning studies.
  • Application of transportation engineering principles to address unique problems and utilize location engineering techniques.
  • Utilization of GIS, CADD, traffic modeling, and other software.
  • Scheduling and conducting technical and public meetings.
  • Coordination and communication with various DOT bureaus, federal, state, and local agencies.
  • Presentations at internal meetings, public meetings, and community events.

Requirements

  • Maintain an active Iowa professional engineering license.
  • Valid drivers' license.
  • Two years of full-time professional work experience in transportation engineering or civil engineering.
  • One year of full-time professional work experience in transportation engineering or civil engineering, with a master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch as a Transportation Engineer.
  • Possess active licensure as a professional engineer by the Iowa Engineering & Land Surveying Examining Board.

Schedule and Travel Requirements
