About the role

The Beaumont Area Office for the TxDOT’s Beaumont District is seeking a Transportation Engineer based in Beaumont, TX. This position offers a salary range from $69,572 to $114,099 for Transportation Engineer II, $76,530 to $129,430 for Transportation Engineer III, $84,182 to $142,374 for Transportation Engineer IV, and $92,600 to $156,612 for Transportation Engineer V.

Responsibilities

  • Assists Area Engineers with construction contract administration matters.
  • Coordinates with Area Engineers and reviews area office contract submissions.
  • Negotiates fees, explains scope of work and monitors consultant design contracts.
  • Oversees construction and audit records.
  • Oversees construction project traffic control plans; periodically reviews traffic control devices with Area Engineers.
  • Oversees contracts, issues work orders and monitors construction schedules and contractor payments and job progress on construction projects.
  • Analyzes and assists in the resolution of contract problems and disputes.
  • Analyzes and recommends approval for modifications to highway maintenance contracts.
  • Conducts pre-construction meetings and public hearings.
  • Drives/travels to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide technical support.
  • Utilizes project management principles in initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling and closing for transportation projects.
  • Collaborates with others to develop, monitor and update integrated project plans and schedules to ensure projects are executed in the most efficient manner possible.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science.
  • Minimum of 5 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Texas.

  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines.
  • Ability to negotiate fees, explain scope of work and monitor consultant design contracts.
  • Strong analytical skills to resolve contract problems and disputes.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact with governmental officials and private entities.
  • Proficiency in project management principles and tools.
  • Ability to drive to project/work locations to conduct on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and provide technical support.
  • Experience with traffic control devices and construction engineering policies and procedures.
