By joining our District 6 Burlington Section as a Transportation Engineer I in Kenton County, you'll perform professional engineering work in the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of highways, structures, or facilities. The agency may authorize the selected candidate to telecommute, though this arrangement may be terminated or modified at any time.
Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee activities of transportation engineering projects with minimal phases and limited scope of work.
- Review and approve transportation engineering documents.
- Design or coordinate the planning and design of transportation facilities in accordance with department policies, procedures, standards, and federal rules and regulations.
- Interpret project plans and contract documents for property owners, local officials, contractors, consultants, materials suppliers, and property owners.
- Review and investigate complaints from property owners and local officials.
- Travel throughout an assigned area or the District to confer on technical and operational problems with contractors, material suppliers, consultants, local officials, departmental engineers, and county maintenance and special operations crews.
- Make routine and final inspections and accept construction and maintenance projects.
- Interpret and draft professional and technical papers and reports.
- Review planning studies and make recommendations for alternative solutions.
- Make recommendations concerning the planning or design of transportation facilities and related work.
- Review requests for repairs, make estimates, and determine expenditures of funds for transportation programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must possess a valid driver’s license prior to employment.
- Must be licensed as a Professional Engineer by the Kentucky Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors or licensed in another state with the ability to obtain a Kentucky Professional Engineering license within the initial six-month probationary period.
- Engineering decisions recommended by individuals without a Kentucky Professional Engineering License must be approved by a KRS Chapter 322 Licensed Professional Engineer until licensure is obtained.
- Must maintain any required licensure, certification, or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.

Schedule
Full-time (37.5 hours per week). Work is performed in the office and in the field, including exposure to risks inherent to construction sites, requiring adherence to safety procedures.
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months.
