Transportation Engineer
About the Role
Join Consor’s Draper team to design local and UDOT roadway improvements—from safety upgrades and urban corridors to interchange and widening projects. Bring a strong technical foundation and a desire to grow into task lead and project leadership while mentoring junior staff and delivering high-quality plans.
Responsibilities
- Lead and perform roadway design, preparing full PS&E packages: plans, specifications, and engineer’s estimates (PSE) for bid.
- Develop typical sections, horizontal/vertical alignments, profiles, cross-sections, and traffic control/phasing details.
- Apply AASHTO and UDOT standards; ensure compliance with local, state, and federal requirements.
- Conduct and oversee drainage and stormwater design components within roadway projects (coordinate with H&H as needed).
- Own scope, schedule, and budget; perform QA/QC reviews of design calculations and plan sheets.
- Mentor junior engineers (task assignment, checks, coaching) and collaborate across disciplines (structures, traffic, environmental).
Requirements
- 4+ years in roadway/transportation design with construction plan set experience.
- Proficiency in Bentley MicroStation/OpenRoads Designer and/or Autodesk Civil 3D; familiarity with InRoads/GEOPAK a plus.
- BS in Civil Engineering.
- PE (Utah) or ability to obtain within 6–12 months.
- Clear communicator who is open to mentoring junior staff and collaborating in multi-disciplinary teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- UDOT project experience and knowledge of UDOT CADD standards.
- Municipal coordination experience.
- Experience preparing PSE/estimate and performing QC reviews.
Work Environment
This hybrid role operates between an office and field environment, routinely using standard office equipment. May require occasional exposure to inclement weather, heat, humidity, noise, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and bodies of water, depending on project requirements.
Physical demands include frequent sitting, moving, standing, talking, hearing, and occasional balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping, and feeling. May occasionally require operating a company vehicle and lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 35 lbs.
Pay
$100,000 – $140,000 per year (depending on experience). Compensation for candidates with significant experience beyond the minimum requirements may exceed this range.
