About the Role

Acts as staff specialist and District Pavement Engineer within the District Planning & Engineering Office. Oversees management of roadway inventory and provides technical expertise and assistance to the Highway Management & Planning & Engineering Department in pavement design, repair, maintenance, and project selection. Coordinates pavement coring operations and establishes priorities for project selection across priority, general, and urban paving programs. Assists the District Planning Engineer in coordinating the annual Capital Workplan and plans and coordinates projects with other programs.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and ensure accurate and timely updating of management information systems (e.g., ELLIS, Structure Management System (SMS), Enterprise & Information Management System (EIMS)) related to program delivery.
  • Implement, use, and maintain business rules, policies, and procedures as standard practices in the designated work environment.
  • Act as first-line supervisor, providing training to lower-level transportation engineers, transportation technicians, and other support personnel when necessary.
  • Interpret complex plans to ensure effective implementation and minimize accidents, conflicts, and delays.
  • Attend seminars, meetings, and work-related training as assigned.
  • Operate a state vehicle to travel to and inspect project sites (if required).

Requirements

  • Licensed as a registered professional engineer by the Ohio State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors.
  • 12 months of experience as a group or project leader providing work direction and training to engineering technicians and/or lower-level engineers, or 12 months of experience in conducting engineering-related research (applicable to staff specialist positions).
  • 12 months of experience as a Transportation Engineer 2 (85642) may substitute for the above experience.
  • Valid driver’s license if assigned to operate a state vehicle.
  • Equivalent minimum class qualifications may substitute for the required experience, except for the mandated registration.
