About the Role
Transportation Driver responsible for the safe, secure, and professional transportation of patients to and from hospitals, medical offices, dialysis centers, and private residences.
Responsibilities
- Provide a high level of customer service while transporting residents to and from activities, appointments, and other outings.
- Assist residents with boarding and leaving the vehicle, seat belts, securing wheelchairs and walkers, and handling groceries or packages.
- Ensure resident safety at all times, including during transit, boarding, and exiting the vehicle or buildings.
- Maintain vehicle upkeep, including fueling, checking oil levels and tire pressure, and delivering the vehicle for servicing.
- Complete daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and maintain cleanliness.
- Follow all safety procedures, infection control protocols, and report hazardous conditions or incidents immediately.
- Operate GPS, two-way radios, and/or cell phones for effective navigation and communication.
- Maintain accurate logs for activities and vehicle reports.
- Communicate effectively with the facility regarding schedules and additional instructions.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Active Illinois Driver’s License required, with specific class based on vehicle size:
- Class C license with passenger endorsement for vehicles transporting 15 or more passengers.
- Class E license for vehicles transporting 14 or fewer passengers.
- Drivers must be between the ages of 25 and 74, as outlined by insurance requirements.
- DOT-compliant physical required; annual physician’s statement for drivers aged 71–74 operating vehicles for 15+ passengers.
- Experience as a bus or van driver preferred.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including report writing and computer proficiency.
Physical Demands
- Ability to move intermittently throughout the workday.
- Lift and carry up to 40 lbs to a minimum height of 5 feet and push, pull, or move such weight up to 50 feet.
- Push or pull up to 25 lbs for a minimum distance of 50 feet.
- Assist in resident evacuations during emergencies.
- Exposure to moderate noise levels and outdoor weather conditions.
- May interact with emotionally upset residents or family members.
