Join our team at Wedgewood Healthcare and Rehabilitation as a compassionate, dependable, and safety-focused Transportation Driver. In this role, you will provide safe and reliable transportation for residents to and from medical appointments while assisting with their comfort, safety, and overall well-being.
Responsibilities
- Safely transport residents to and from medical appointments and other approved destinations.
- Operate wheelchair-accessible vans and shuttle buses in accordance with all traffic laws and DOT regulations.
- Perform daily vehicle inspections and safety checks before each trip.
- Ensure residents are properly secured with seat belts, wheelchair tie-downs, and other safety equipment.
- Assist residents entering and exiting vehicles, including the safe operation of wheelchair lifts.
- Communicate appointment schedules and transportation plans with residents and facility staff.
- Assist residents in preparing for appointments, ensuring they have appropriate clothing, required paperwork, test results, medications, and personal items.
- Coordinate with nursing staff before and after appointments, providing updates and delivering medical documentation.
- Observe residents during transport and promptly report any changes in condition to the nursing team.
- Assist residents with meals, hydration, and personal care while off-site when necessary.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of transportation vehicles.
- Report vehicle maintenance concerns, accidents, or safety issues immediately.
- Follow all infection control, safety, HIPAA, and resident rights policies.
- Promote a respectful, person-centered environment while maintaining resident dignity and confidentiality.
Qualifications
- Valid Florida driver's license with a clean driving record (MVR required).
- Previous experience transporting passengers preferred.
- Nursing home, rehabilitation, or long-term care experience preferred.
- Experience assisting seniors or individuals with disabilities is a plus.
- Ability to safely assist residents with mobility, transfers, and wheelchair securement.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Reliable, compassionate, and committed to resident safety.
- Ability to work weekends, holidays, and flexible schedules as needed.
