About the role

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Tyler District seeks a Transportation Design Engineer I or II to join the Advance Transportation Planning and Development team in a project manager role. This position is responsible for designing, managing, and coordinating schematic and PS&E for mobility projects throughout the eight-county district.

Responsibilities

  • Designs moderately complex schematic and PS&E projects.
  • Drives/travels to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests, and to provide technical support.
  • Serves as a lead worker.
  • Makes engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates, and contracts.
  • Trains engineering staff.

Requirements

  • Assists in developing and monitoring budgets.
  • Performs complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates, and contracts.
  • Performs complex planning work such as plan review, calculations, and assisting in transportation planning studies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science.
  • Transportation Engineer I: 4 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience.
  • Transportation Engineer II: 5 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience.

Skills

  • Applicable plans, specifications, and estimates preparation, review, processing, and compliance requirements.
  • Applicable engineering workstations and applications to support efficient planning and design activities.
  • Design and plan preparation methods and requirements.
  • Critical Path Method for managing projects.
  • Budgeting methods and procedures.
  • Contract development and oversight.
  • Applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
