Duties & Responsibilities

  • Aid in the design and development of roadway and transportation projects, including horizontal and vertical alignments.
  • Prepare 2D and 3D roadway designs using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Support the production of construction plans, specifications, and project documentation.
  • Perform quantity calculations and assist in developing cost estimates.
  • Contribute to technical reports and supporting project deliverables.
  • Coverage of project teams for coordination.
  • Participate in field visits and site observations to support project development and design accuracy.
  • Review and incorporate feedback from senior staff, addressing redlines and markups.
  • Utilize tools such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite in daily work.
  • Ensure work aligns with project standards, including WisDOT requirements where applicable.
  • Maintain organized project files and documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in transportation or civil engineering design.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or successful completion of the FE exam.
  • Basic understanding of roadway design principles and engineering fundamentals.
  • Experience or exposure to AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and take direction from senior staff.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel occasionally for field visits.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Internship or prior experience working on WisDOT or transportation projects.
  • Familiarity with WisDOT standards, processes, or documentation.
  • Experience using Bluebeam for plan review and markups.
  • Exposure to hydraulic or drainage design concepts.
  • Experience assisting with quantity takeoffs or cost estimating.
  • Familiarity with Wisconsin municipal or county infrastructure projects.
