Transportation Design Engineer
The Department of Environmental Services (DES) is seeking a Transportation Design Engineer to join the Design Team within the Transportation Engineering and Operations Bureau (TE&O). The position will collaborate with other agencies and programs to review plans, and/or provide technical expertise for multi-modal urban safety improvement projects. Areas of expertise include ADA and pedestrian requirements, bicycle accommodations, traffic operations, and shared curb space usage.
About the role
The Transportation Design Engineer will work on projects that enhance urban safety and mobility through innovative design solutions. This role requires a strong understanding of urban planning principles and the ability to integrate various modes of transportation into cohesive designs.
Responsibilities
- Review and analyze project plans for compliance with ADA and pedestrian requirements
- Provide technical expertise in bicycle accommodations and traffic operations
- Collaborate with other agencies and programs to ensure multi-modal urban safety improvements
- Participate in the development of shared curb space usage strategies
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in transportation engineering
- Knowledge of traffic engineering principles and practices
- Experience with urban planning and design
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Qualifications
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Skills
- Proficient in GIS software
- Experience with traffic simulation models
