As a Transportation Coordinator, you will manage and coordinate transportation operations, including scheduled routes, special excursions, maintenance scheduling, and substitute driver/vehicle assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees drivers and buses assigned to routes; assigns substitute drivers and spare vehicles as needed.
  • Oversees pre-trip and post-trip inspections and proper vehicle parking on campus.
  • Serves as the bus operator liaison for equipment, routes, maintenance, and student discipline; ensures school administration receives necessary reports; ensures timely paperwork for bus operators and administration.
  • Coordinates with maintenance vendor(s) on repairs, inspections, and preventative maintenance.
  • Coordinates with safety & training vendor on driver onboarding, monthly safety meetings, and annual recertification.
  • Advises school administration on applicants, bus operator issues, and termination recommendations (note: Transportation Coordinator does not have authority to hire, fire, or formally reprimand).
  • Works with bus operators and Deans of Discipline on disciplinary issues arising on buses.
  • Coordinates evacuation drills with bus operators and school administration.
  • Communicates routing issues, delays, and anomalies with school staff in a timely manner.
  • Assists in maintaining an effective computerized transportation management system.
  • Assists in the efficient staffing of the student transportation system; supervises, hires, and evaluates bus operators and attendants in compliance with state laws and regulations; projects staffing requirements for routes and schedules.
  • Acts as a substitute bus operator when needed, including:
    • Driving a school bus safely in accordance with time schedules; transporting students to and from homes, school sites, and field trips.
    • Overseeing the loading and unloading of students, releasing them only to authorized individuals.
    • Maintaining order and discipline of passengers; resolving disputes; documenting and reporting severe cases.
    • Conducting daily safety and operational inspections of the assigned vehicle.
    • Maintaining the bus in safe and clean operational condition; reporting mechanical repairs; sweeping the interior daily; servicing the bus with gas; following security procedures.
    • Maintaining records and reports, including attendance, mileage, routing, maintenance, and time schedules.
    • Attending meetings, programs, and in-service training as assigned.
    • Maintaining current required licenses and certificates.
    • Notifying appropriate individuals of delays in scheduled routes.
    • Assisting with other routes during breakdowns or unusual circumstances.
  • Provides timely electronic, written, and oral feedback to all levels.
  • Professionally and positively represents the school, foundation, and/or CSUSA in all situations.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding student and employee information.
  • Ensures quality standards on policies and procedures are maintained.
  • Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance at work.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; high school diploma or equivalent may be considered.
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.
  • Clean driving record in accordance with Safe Driver Plan.
  • Commercial License Medical Examiner’s Certification.
  • CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) Certification.
  • School Bus Driver Certificate.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Proficient in general computer use, email communication, and job-specific equipment/software/applications.
  • Proven experience in a coordination role.
  • Strong decision-making capabilities.
  • Above-average communication, collaboration, and delegation skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of operational procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret maps.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

Continuing Education/Training/Compliance

  • Monthly Safety Meetings.
  • Annual School Bus Driver Certification.
  • Maintain a clean driving record in accordance with Safe Drive Plan.
  • Maintain background check clearance in accordance with the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE), Louisiana State Police (LSP), and Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI).
  • Maintain Commercial License Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
  • Driving assessment each semester.

Work Environment

Physical Demands

  • Travel within or outside of state may be required.
  • Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects.

This job is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
