Position Summary
Inspect and monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, contract requirements, and quality standards. This role includes field inspections, documentation, materials testing, quantity tracking, and coordination with project teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Observe and document daily construction activities
- Inspect roadway, bridge, drainage, and utility work
- Verify compliance with plans, specifications, and safety requirements
- Sample and test construction materials
- Measure quantities and maintain project records
- Review contractor submittals and report non-compliance issues
- Complete daily reports and project documentation
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering preferred
- GDOT and/or SCDOT inspection experience preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Strong math, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Valid driver's license and ability to work in field environments
Experience Levels
- Inspector I: 0–3 years of construction inspection experience
- Ability to obtain required certifications within six months
- Inspector II: 3+ years of transportation construction inspection experience
- Current DOT certifications preferred
- Experience with roadway, bridge, asphalt, concrete, drainage, or earthwork inspection
Preferred Certifications
- Georgia: ART, EDBT, Concrete Technician I & II, Work Zone Traffic Control, ACI Field Testing Technician
- South Carolina: Concrete Technician, Asphalt Roadway Technician, Earthwork & Base Technician, Foundations Certification, Nuclear Gauge Safety Certification
Work Environment
- Regular field work on active construction sites
- Standing, walking, climbing, lifting, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Night and weekend work may be required based on project schedules
Physical Demands
- Moderate physical activity such as walking, standing, bending, and climbing stairs or ladders
- Occasional lifting of objects weighing up to 80 pounds
- Ability to navigate construction sites skillfully and conduct thorough inspections of materials and structures
- Visual discernment and differentiation of details and colors of objects
- Recognition of sound, tone, and pitch
- Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills
- Adaptability to interruptions and changes in workflow
- Capacity to sit for extended periods
- Ability to work in varied environmental conditions, including hot, cold, and noisy settings
- Capable of working in conditions with active traffic
Pay Range
$20 - $29 per hour
