About the role

WSP is initiating a search for a Transportation Civil (Roadway) Technical Excellence Center (TEC) Lead for the Southwest Mountain region, covering Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico. The Civil TEC Lead will focus on business development, marketing, and project pursuits to strengthen our presence in Southwest state markets. This role provides leadership to a talented group of professionals across all career levels working on transportation projects, leveraging a Civil Engineering background to excel in client relations, business development, and staff mentoring.

Responsibilities

• Provide proactive and strategic leadership for the design, implementation, and administration of engineering discipline projects and programs within the organization.
• Lead and manage the technical aspects of contract negotiation, presentations, and client meetings.
• Drive growth and development of the Civil team, including interfacing with the Local Business Leader, meeting with clients to expand work, and strategically teaming with other consultants.
• Perform marketing and business development activities, including gathering client intelligence, leading pursuits and proposals, and engaging with professional organizations.
• Manage tasks related to project development, including plan and report production.
• Interface with staff from various disciplines (traffic, civil, planning, geotechnical, etc.) to support diverse projects.
• Ensure profitable performance of projects and successful completion within the specified region.
• Drive compliance with Federal, State, and Local engineering, design, and construction laws, codes, policies, and regulatory requirements.
• Improve overall project quality and delivery within the discipline.
• Support agency coordination, permitting, and public participation activities.
• Lead engineering discipline meetings and continuing education opportunities, providing updates and recommendations to foster innovation and quality project delivery.
• Provide senior leadership for proposals, project scopes, pricing, budgeting, and performance metrics.
• Interpret and summarize complex project data, producing reports and documents that result in sound engineering and regulatory conclusions.
• Provide discipline leadership to multi-disciplinary project teams and contribute high-level strategic advice to clients.
• Offer performance guidance and proactive leadership to assigned managers and staff.
• Develop high-level business contacts and a client base for civil engineering services, identifying additional business development opportunities and cross-selling WSP capabilities.
• Collaborate with professionals from various disciplines to deliver future-ready solutions for clients.
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• 15+ years of relevant post-education experience in engineering, civil, and infrastructure design.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required; multi-state licensure preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of experience leading, managing, and mentoring teams of civil engineers and technicians.
• Demonstrated experience with State and local governments, contractors, transportation agencies, and professional organizations.
• Strong history and experience with DOT projects and programs.
• Proven project management skills and experience.
• Strong technical skills in roadway/structural design and analysis.
• Experience with marketing, business development, project pursuits, and proposal preparation.
• Experience mentoring and developing the technical capabilities of mid-level and junior staff.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proven management and interpersonal skills.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and/or New Mexico.
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol policies.
• Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific needs.

• Master’s Degree in Engineering.

Pay

Expected salary (Colorado only): $191,000 - $303,400. WSP USA provides this range based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, in addition to internal equity and geographic location.
