About the role

The Civil TEC Lead will focus on business development, marketing, and project pursuits to strengthen our presence in the Southwest states markets (Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico). This role provides leadership to a talented group of professionals across all career levels working on transportation projects, relying on a Civil Engineering background to excel in client relations, business development, and staff mentoring.

Responsibilities

• Provide proactive and strategic process and people leadership for the design, implementation, and administration of engineering discipline’s project and program involvement.
• Leadership, oversight, mentoring, and management of the Civil Team’s technical aspects, including contract negotiation, presentations, and meetings.
• Drive growth and development of the Civil team, interfacing with the Local Business Leader, meeting clients to expand work, and strategically teaming with other consultants.
• Perform marketing and business development activities, including gathering client intelligence, leading pursuits and proposals, and engaging with professional organizations.
• Manage tasks as part of project development, including plan and report production.
• Interface with staff from disciplines such as traffic, civil, planning, and geotechnical to support diverse projects.
• Ensure profitable performance of projects and successful completion within the specified area.
• Drive compliance with Federal, State, and Local engineering/design/construction laws, codes, policies, and regulatory requirements.
• Improve overall quality and delivery of projects throughout the discipline.
• Support agency coordination, permitting, and public participation activities.
• Lead engineering discipline meetings and continuing educational opportunities, providing updates and recommendations to staff.
• Provide senior leadership for proposals, project work scopes, pricing, budget, and performance metrics.
• Interpret and summarize data for complex projects and initiatives, resulting in sound engineering and regulatory conclusions.
• Provide discipline leadership to multi-disciplinary project teams and contribute high-level strategic advice to clients.
• Develop high-level business contacts and a client base for civil engineering services, identifying additional business development opportunities.
• Collaborate with professionals from various disciplines to deliver future-ready solutions for clients.
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• 15+ years of relevant post-education experience in engineering, civil, and infrastructure design.
• Engineer license required (multi-state preferred).
• Minimum 5 years leading, managing, and mentoring teams of engineers and technicians.
• Demonstrated experience with State and local governments, contractors, transportation agencies, and professional organizations.
• Strong history and experience with DOT projects and programs.
• Strong project management and technical skills relevant to roadway/structural design and analysis.
• Experience with marketing, business development, project pursuits, and proposal preparation.
• Experience mentoring and developing technical capabilities of mid-level and junior staff.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proven management and interpersonal skills.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and/or New Mexico.
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol policies.
• Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

• Master’s Degree in Engineering.

Pay

Expected salary (Colorado only): $191,000 - $303,400. WSP USA provides this range based on education, experience, knowledge, skills, and internal equity, with adjustments possible depending on specific circumstances.
