DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Aid in the safe transportation of students to and from designated schools on assigned bus routes.
- Collaborate with the bus driver to manage student needs and maintain order during scheduled bus routes.
- Enforce and implement established rules and procedures for transportation services.
- Maintain appropriate student management and report incidents or accidents to the appropriate supervisor(s).
- Assist with seating assignments for students and provide physical and emotional support.
- Help students get into their seats, fasten seat belts, and use safety equipment.
- Support health care situations such as wiping noses and assisting with outerwear and shoes.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitize the student seating area.
- Instruct students on proper loading, unloading, and safe conduct during transportation.
- Communicate with department personnel, school personnel, and parents regarding student behavior and needs.
- Participate in bus evacuation drills according to approved procedures.
- Complete and submit all required reports and documentation.
- Operate special equipment as needed and assist with special medical procedures for students.
- Attend all mandatory meetings and trainings.
- Maintain confidentiality and ethical behavior at all times.
- Comply with district policies and procedures and safety regulations.
- Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.
Qualifications And Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 21 years of age.
- Able to work with and understand the needs of special needs children.
- Able to operate necessary equipment for transportation of special needs students.
- Confidential, trustworthy, self-motivated, attentive to details, efficient, patient, and capable of working under pressure and stress.
- Able to analyze situations quickly and communicate timely solutions.
- Well-developed communication skills, both verbal and written, necessary for professional interaction and maintaining a positive image.
- Willingness to improve and develop job-related skills.
- Excellent work habits, attendance record, and successful completion of criminal history and DCS clearances.
- Free of alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace.
- Adherence to PTS Core Values, PTS Strategic Plan, and all PTS District policies and guidelines, including the civility policy.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, including standing, walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and crawling.
- Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (25 pounds or more).
