Transportation Attendant

About the role

The Parking & Transport Attendant supports campus mobility, parking rules enforcement, and safe transit operations within the University of North Texas Parking and Transportation Services department.

Department Summary

The Parking & Transportation department supports the university community by promoting safe, accessible, and efficient parking and transportation services. Attendants assist with parking enforcement, provide exceptional customer service, and serve as a visible resource for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Responsibilities

• Consistently and fairly enforce parking rules and regulations.
• Generate appropriate level of vehicle and/or foot patrol in and around campus facilities.
• Ensure compliance with policies, statutes, safety guidelines, and procedures.
• Use appropriate discretion in resolving problems, performance issues, and complaints.
• Perform duties related to building/facility security.
• Work as a team member, placing team goals ahead of individual goals.
• Manage time effectively and complete assigned projects within established guidelines.
• Operate alarm and access devices, police radio equipment, basic office and computing equipment.
• Operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment (if required).

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license (may be required to operate a motorized vehicle, including golf carts).
• Satisfactory driving record and ability to maintain insurability under the University’s liability policy (if driving a University vehicle).
• Physical stamina for considerable standing, walking, and outdoor exposure.
• Ability to lift items up to approximately 50 lbs (and up to 100 lbs or more for some tasks).
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions and perform basic mathematical calculations.
• Knowledge of campus geography and building locations (or ability to rapidly assimilate).
• Ability to make independent decisions concerning adherence to procedures and guidelines.
• Ability to function under pressure or in emergency situations.
• Valid, unrestricted Texas Driver’s License.

• Excellent customer service skills.
• Willingness to take initiative and encourage process improvements.

Skills

• Ability to see and hear within normal parameters.
• Skill in the safe operation of a vehicle (if required).
• Ability to communicate effectively to exchange information.

Physical Requirements

• Lifting and moving objects up to 100 pounds or more.
• Moving about to accomplish tasks or between worksites.
• Working in tight and confined spaces.
• Operating machinery, power tools, motor vehicles, or heavy equipment.
• Repeating motions involving wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
• Sedentary work involving sitting or standing for extended periods.

Environmental Hazards

• Exposure to low and elevated temperatures.
• Noisy environments.
• Outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.

Schedule

40 hours per week; some overtime and weekends required.
