Transportation Associate

About the role

Transportation Associates perform trailer moves in the trailer yard, coordinate yard activities (such as checking in trailers, traffic flow, internal communications with operations, etc.), conduct yard audits, complete applicable driver training programs (Hostler, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) School, etc.), and operate multiple vehicle types based on business need (including but not limited to hostlers and day cabs) to support Amazon’s transportation network.

Responsibilities

• Make safety a priority by adhering to company rules and regulations.
• Follow and enforce safety measures and policies for all who operate vehicles on behalf of Amazon and those who enter the yard, including vendors and senior team members.
• Perform various functions within the yard, support site operations teams, internal transportation field teams, and external carriers to ensure all trailers arrive and depart on time with zero defects and maintain workflow for buildings.
• Be professionally trained to operate Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMVs) on non-public roads or in the yard to move trailers to/from dock and parking locations.
• Learn Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and comply with company policies and procedures related to those regulations (size, weight, route designations, parking, trailer designations, violation and incident reporting requirements, break periods, etc.).
• Complete driver vehicle inspection reports on equipment and notify managers of any maintenance or delivery issues encountered.
• Follow hostler and delivery schedules, track and report working hours and breaks at appropriate times in compliance with Amazon policy and federal and state regulations, adhere to yard safety policies, obey all applicable traffic laws, and drive in accordance with weather/road conditions.
• Support the business on an as-needed basis by serving as a peer trainer and/or working at nearby site locations within the area.
• Drive, maneuver, and load/unload a truck using approved equipment (pallet jack, etc.).

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

• Hold a valid and active driver’s license.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be 21 years or older.
• Ability to understand and adhere to all job requirements and safety guidelines in English.
• Can lift up to 49 pounds, stand and walk during shifts lasting up to 12 hours, and frequently push, pull, squat, bend, reach, and ascend/descend stairs.
• Work 40 hours/week, and overtime as required.
• Work a flexible schedule/shift/work area, including weekends, nights, and/or holidays.
• Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements as a condition of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with diverse audiences.
• Experience building strong, collaborative relationships with colleagues and outside vendors.
• A valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
• Completion of Career Choice Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Course.
• Experience with Microsoft Office products and applications.
• Ability to follow and enforce safety measures and policies.

Pay

Starting pay: $24.00 USD hourly, including base pay rate plus the highest available shift differential depending on the shift selected. Additional earnings may include shift differentials and overtime pay.

Transportation Associates must obtain their Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and Driver Qualification File (DQF) as a condition of the role, paid for by Amazon. Continuing in the position with CDL and DQF certification is contingent upon the successful completion of a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening, a DOT physical, and Amazon’s pre-employment drug test.
