Transportation Assistant Manager - IDEA San Benito (Immediate Opening)

Assist the Campus Transportation Manager to coordinate and oversee all transportation needs at the campus, including school bus routes, scheduling, and daily operations. Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations and applicable laws. Train and develop the use of software for mapping, routing, and fleet efficiency.

Compensation

Hourly rate ranging from $20.75 (0 years of experience) to $25.50. Eligible for a performance bonus based on team performance and goal attainment.

Requirements

• GED or High School Diploma.
• Experience in the operation of large passenger vehicles or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Ability to manage student behavior.
• Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with class P (passenger) and S (school bus) endorsements.
• Completed bus driver safety training course.
• Must be over 18 years old.
• Pass alcohol and drug tests.
• DOT Physical Examination.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the safe transportation of all students with “0” preventable incidents/accidents.
• Screen and test candidates to ensure they possess or are acquiring excellent skills in operating a school bus.
• Train drivers in Pre/Post Trip inspections and foster a culture of safety.
• Maintain up-to-date driver credentials and ensure all required trainings are completed on time.
• Oversee daily operations of the dispatch office, monitor two-way radios, and address bus problems, lateness, and accidents.
• Respond to drivers' accidents, conduct internal investigations, gather information, and assist students and staff.
• Handle emergency calls after hours and on weekends.
• Maintain an efficient operation with a Cost Per Mile under $3.70.
• Develop driver schedules that prioritize driving duties while on the clock.
• Audit team participation to prevent system abuse ("Inspect what you expect").
• Monitor preventive maintenance to avoid costly repairs.
• Serve as a substitute Bus Driver when needed.
• Screen employees to ensure only qualified, dedicated individuals are hired.
• Maintain fleet in safe operating condition with a 7% savings on maintenance costs over the previous year.
• Ensure maintenance supplies are not over-purchased and preventive maintenance is done systematically.
• Utilize Transfinder to create and update routes, ensuring no route exceeds 10% over its roster capacity.
• Maintain up-to-date driver and student records in Route Finder.
• Utilize Synovia to analyze reports, including Planned vs. Actual Routes and stop-by-stop performance data.
• Provide excellent customer service by communicating with school staff, administrators, parents, and outside agencies to resolve issues regarding transportation services, student behavior, and special accommodations.
• Supervise Bus Drivers and foster a work environment with a minimum of 85% staff retention.
