About the role
The Transportation Assistant Manager will assist the Campus Transportation Manager to coordinate and oversee all transportation needs at his/her campus. The Assistant Manager will work towards learning, adapting and surpassing the goals set forth by the department, including coordinating school bus routes, scheduling, and daily operations of buses and bus drivers.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the safe transportation of all students by achieving "0" preventable incidents/accidents
- Oversee the daily operations of the dispatch office and monitor two-way radios to address bus problems, lateness, and accidents
- Receive and respond to drivers' accidents, emergency calls, and maintain an efficient operation
- Develop a schedule for all drivers, continuously audit team participation, and monitor preventive maintenance
- Serve as a substitute Bus Driver when needed and create a work environment with a minimum of 85% transportation staff retention
- Maintain fleet in safe operating condition, ensure maintenance supplies are not over purchased, and utilize Transfinder and Synovia to analyze reports
- Provide excellent customer service, communicate with school site staff, administrators, parents, and outside agencies to exchange information and resolve issues
Requirements
- GED or High School Diploma
- Experience in the operation of large passenger vehicles or equivalent combination of experience and training
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with class P (passenger) and S (school bus) endorsements
- Completed bus driver safety training course
- Must be over 18 years old, pass alcohol and drug tests, and have a DOT Physical Examination
- Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish)

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, conflict resolution skills, leadership skills, and time management skills. They will be able to delegate and manage a wide variety of skillsets, recognize strengths and areas for improvement, and properly use the skillsets of each team member.
