About the role

The University of Chicago campus is located in Hyde Park, Chicago, and serves as a hub for student housing and commuting. The Department of Safety and Security includes the UCPD, Emergency Management, Transportation and Parking Services, Campus Safety Division, and Environmental Health and Safety. The Department aims to provide robust parking, safety, and transportation services to the university community.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the activities and day-to-day functions of the Transportation and Parking Office.
  • Works directly with Transportation and Parking Services Managers to ensure goals and objectives are met.
  • Runs reports via the parking database, maintaining inventory counts and cash-handling operations.
  • Supports transit operations by collecting and analyzing passenger counts.
  • Inspects and performs quality assurance checks on shuttles during daylight and evening hours.
  • Develops customer queries and allocates permits for online sales using T2's Flex database.
  • Maintains and ensures proper functioning of access and revenue control equipment.
  • Assists with ordering parts and restoring equipment when necessary.
  • Supports transit programs by providing day-to-day assistance with customer complaints, operational issues, and schedule adherence.
  • Coordinates transportation and parking needs for campus events and orientations.
  • Manages special projects and functions related to Transportation and Parking Services.
  • Coordinates TDM programs including occasional parking programs, carpooling, car-sharing, and dial-a-ride services.
  • Schedules maintenance for pay-in-lane and pay-on-foot equipment and works with vendors when there is a malfunction.
  • Coordinates the University's transit programs, including campus shuttles, charters, and CTA services.

Requirements

  • Minimum requirements include vocational training, apprenticeships, or related work experience (not typically requiring a four-year degree).
  • Knowledge and skills developed through 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience in parking and transportation operations, TDM coordination, and customer service.
  • Administrative experience, including cash handling management and customer service.
  • One year of cash handling management experience.
  • Two years of customer service experience.

Skills

  • Excellent computer skills, including knowledge of MS Office.
  • Familiarity with parking and transit operations, police department, or administrative functions.
