Requirements, Licenses And Certification
- Minimum: 48 units, Associates Degree or pass CBEST
- Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree
- Valid CA Driver License and proof of valid auto insurance
- Ability to safely: Sit, walk, stand, squat, stoop, kneel, chase, lift up to 75 lbs., team-lift, implement non-violent physical crisis intervention techniques
Essential Job Functions, Duties & Responsibilities
- Transportation Assignment:
- Meet student at their residence at the designated time communicated by the Program Specialist
- Board the student’s transportation vehicle and ride with the student
- Monitor student behavior and health concerns on the transportation route to and from CHDS
- In case of planned or unplanned absences, cover the route by contacting another available transportation aide/staff member or inform the Program Specialist / HBIC Administration
- Contact the parent/guardian of the student to inform them of the absence if unable to cover the route
- In case of an unplanned absence, the Program Specialist / HBIC Administration will contact the parent/guardian to inform them the student is unable to attend school due to lack of route coverage
- School-based Assignment:
- Aid students with special needs in all self-help activities and activities of daily living
- Assist students in appropriate transitional skills
- Meet and greet students arriving on buses at transportation areas
- Aid students with mobility issues in navigating their indoor and outdoor educational environment
- Aid with toileting and toilet training (as needed); this can include changing soiled clothing
- Instruct in areas of hygiene
- Aid with cooking activities
- Aid with eating and nutritional needs throughout the day; this includes assisted feeding (as needed)
- Maintain clean work areas
- Maintain proper function and treatment of equipment and supplies as directed
- Aid in preparing instructional materials
- Lift and secure students safely using a two-person lift as necessary
- Modify activities appropriately for students with special needs
- Check and follow each student's individual and class schedules
- Maintain informational charts on student behavior and academic progress
- Record regular, ongoing academic and/or behavioral data
- Remove students during behavioral disturbances (as needed/directed)
- Communicate with the school office
- Aid with the distribution of parent-teacher communications, as directed
- Aid student in completing IEP-based goal work
- Prepare and gather goal work as needed such as worksheets and other materials
- Turn in completed documentation forms to their designated areas
- Aid with Behavioral Interventions as needed or instructed
- Provide clear behavior expectations for students and monitor student behaviors throughout the class and school campus
- Follow established policies and procedures for reporting incidents (e.g. behavior emergencies, student injuries, child abuse, substance abuse, harassment and violence)
