Transportation Aide

About the Role

Under immediate supervision, transports patients, medical equipment, laboratory specimens, and supplies within all areas of the medical center.

Responsibilities

• Transports patients (pre-operative, post-operative, Hemodialysis, etc.) by wheelchair or gurney within the Medical Center.
• Picks up routine and STAT requests for laboratory specimens, blood, equipment, supplies, and other appropriate materials (medical or other), including data reports on regular routes or as required, and delivers to appropriate locations in the hospital facility.
• With an escort by a Security Officer, transports expired patients to the morgue.
• Picks up soiled patient equipment and supplies from Nursing units and transports to Central Processing.
• Transports equipment from NICU to Central Processing as requested.
• Performs CPR and responds to Code Blue Pages as necessary.
• Distributes films, answers phones as required, escorts patients as needed to various areas of the hospital, and assists with patient transfer.
• Provides direction to patients in radiology as needed.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

• Six (6) months previous experience in general patient care/hospital transportation. (Per the National Agreement, current KP Coalition employees have this experience requirement waived.)
• Demonstrated ability to follow written and oral directions.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
• Basic Life Support certification within 1 month of hire.
• Required to work 1 weekend per month.

Preferred Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED.
• Valid Class C California Driver’s License and a current California Driver Record Information Sheet.
• Driving record free of accidents involving the applicant’s negligence, citations with forfeit of bail for driving while intoxicated, driving under the influence of drugs, or reckless driving.
• Nursing Aide certification.

Schedule

• On-Call position; days and hours may vary.
• Shift: Variable (Monday through Sunday).
• Working Hours: 12:01 AM – 11:59 PM.

Pay

$25.35 - $27.49 per hour. Kaiser Permanente strives to offer a market-competitive total rewards package and is committed to pay equity and transparency. The posted pay range is based on possible base salaries for the role. Actual base pay determined at offer will be based on labor market data, internal alignment, and a candidate's years of relevant work experience, education, certifications, skills, and geographic location.
