Location: Oak Park, Illinois – Rush Oak Park Hospital, Central Transportation Department

Full-time position (0.9–1.0 FTE), Shift 2, 8-hour schedule (11:30 AM – 8:00 PM)

About the role

Under the direction of the Manager of Medical Imaging/Cardiology and with general supervision of the lead techs, you will transport patients to and from all areas of the hospital. You will also assist in transporting equipment, specimens, and perform minor clerical duties in a manner that exemplifies the Rush mission, vision, and values while adhering to Rush policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Transport patients and patient-care equipment to designated areas throughout the hospital.
• Use the EPIC Transport module to accept and record job assignments.
• Observe policies and procedures pertaining to safe bed operations, O₂ equipment, stretchers, wheelchairs, lift devices, and other patient-care equipment.
• Follow hospital policies regarding Isolation precautions and required PPE.
• Transport and treat patients with respect for their privacy and modesty.
• Transfer patients to and from wheelchairs, beds, and diagnostic equipment using safe and ergonomic maneuvers.
• Physically move patients on and off transport equipment.
• Assist patient-care units/department staff with transferring patients to and from beds, wheelchairs, and stretchers.
• Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment in accordance with hospital policies and governing regulations.
• Demonstrate behaviors necessary for age-specific care and knowledge of decision-making processes for all ages of the population served.
• Obtain appropriate equipment to accomplish tasks with minimal disruption.
• Deliver wheelchairs and stretchers needing repair to the designated area.
• Cope with and manage change effectively.
• Perform duties in accordance with HIPAA policies.
• Train new Transport techs on equipment, patient tracking via phone, recording job assignments, body mechanics, elevator etiquette, etc.
• Maintain a professional appearance and attitude.
• Function under pressure when interacting with patients, co-workers, and others in difficult situations.
• Transport blood products, surgical specimens, and/or other supplies as needed throughout the hospital.
• Alert the Security Department when unusual occurrences are observed.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must obtain CPR certification within the first 90 days of hire.
• Customer-service focus and courteous bedside manner.
• Excellent communication skills to work with patients, physicians, and other hospital personnel.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or G.E.D.
• Physical ability to help lift 50 lbs. and greater.
• Ability to push and pull patients and transportation equipment up and down inclines.
• Stamina to spend 90% of the workday on your feet.
• Ability to read and basic computer skills necessary to utilize the hospital EMR for job duties.

Pay

$16.20 – $21.77 per hour. Rush salaries are determined by many factors including education, job-related experience, skills, internal equity, and industry-specific market data. Offers may vary depending on the circumstances of each case.
