About the role

The Transport Unit provides secure transportation to authorized locations for the adults in the custody of the Department of Corrections. This position is part of the Transport Unit structure and manages the operational concerns of mass transfers, medical and court trips, and high security adult in custody movement consistent with prison and public safety.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and clear a Department of Motor Vehicles check
  • Possess and maintain a clear criminal history
  • The ability to pass Range Qualifications
  • Manage operational concerns of mass transfers, medical and court trips, and high security adult in custody movement
  • Transfer adults in custody from one institution to another in a variety of different types of vehicles
  • Interact with the public daily and ensure professional and courteous behavior while promoting public safety
  • Handle AIC incidents in the employee’s immediate work area
  • Prevent escapes from confinement by proper control of keys, tools, and contraband
  • Document unusual incidents as they occur
  • Be subject to call back in the event of an emergency at which time he/she would be placed in any post in the institution

Requirements

  • Currently in the Security Series Classifications at Correctional Officer level or higher
  • Possess a valid Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) Correctional Certificate
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and clear a Department of Motor Vehicles check
  • Possess and maintain a clear criminal history
  • The ability to pass an alcohol and drug test
  • The ability to pass Range Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility

Skills

  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and clear a Department of Motor Vehicles check
  • Possess and maintain a clear criminal history
  • The ability to pass Range Qualifications

The salary range listed above is for non-PERS qualifying applicants. PERS qualifying applicants may be eligible for an adjusted range to reflect an additional 6.95%. The State of Oregon provides a generous benefit package, including:

Pay

The salary range listed above is for non-PERS qualifying applicants. PERS qualifying applicants may be eligible for an adjusted range to reflect an additional 6.95%.

Schedule

Hours of work consist of a four-day work week of 10-hour shifts. Transport Officers hours can be flexed: 2 hours prior to their normal start time or 2 hours later than their normal start time on a daily basis depending on the daily operational needs.
