About the role

The Transport Firefighter/EMT contributes to the comprehensive Countywide Fire Rescue and Emergency Services program. This position requires the ability to provide quality medical care and respond to emergencies, including fire suppression and disaster management.

Responsibilities

  • Drives and/or operates a county vehicle or equipment, adhering to safety policies and laws.
  • Responds to emergency calls, reads maps, and drives to emergency sites, ensuring compliance with traffic rules.
  • Assists Paramedics in emergency medical care, interpreting diagnostic signs, and stabilizing patients with basic life support procedures.
  • Provides rehydration/rehabilitation and medical treatment to victims, firefighters, and other personnel at the scene.
  • Communicates effectively over two-way radio channels, radios for additional assistance, and prepares for courtroom hearings.
  • Maintains and repairs medical equipment and supplies, and prepares and maintains files and records.
  • Attends shift meetings and in-service training to stay updated on emergency medicine techniques, policies, and procedures.
  • Participates in fire prevention, control, and suppression tasks, including inspecting fire hydrants, establishing hydrant/hose connections, and participating in post-fire cleanup.
  • Performs community outreach activities such as offering free blood pressure readings and educating the public on emergency medical procedures.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties and administrative tasks, including station cleaning, answering the telephone, and basic grounds maintenance.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years old, hold a valid Florida Driver License or Florida Identification Card, and complete a physical examination and meet physical requirements as per Florida Statutes and NFPA 1582.

  • Valid Certification as a State of Florida Firefighter II and EMT.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Emergency Vehicle Operator Certification (EVOC).
  • Certification in FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Strong working knowledge of computers and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to maintain courteous relations and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Available to work irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Skills

  • Effective communication skills.
  • Sound judgment and discretion.
  • Discretion in handling confidential and protected health information.
  • Proficiency in computer systems and applications.
