Part-time (0.5 FTE) position with benefits, represented by ACE Associates bargaining unit. Non-exempt from overtime.

Schedule

  • Varied shifts with weekend and holiday rotation
  • Weekday start times: 7:00 AM–3:00 PM, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM
  • Weekend start times: 7:00 AM–3:00 PM, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM

About the Role

Provides scheduled and non-scheduled transport services for patients moving to and from the Diagnostic Imaging department and nursing/clinical areas, ensuring optimal patient comfort and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Assist most patients independently from bed or chair to wheelchair
  • With one or more assists, move patients from bed to stretcher
  • Transport patients while pushing wheelchairs and one additional device (oxygen, IV pump) or pushing a stretcher and one device (IV pump), including navigating crowded hallways, negotiating turns, and boarding elevators
  • Connect and regulate portable oxygen devices (competency required within 60 days)
  • Manage IV tubing and maintain IV pump battery life (competency required within 60 days)
  • Monitor for changes in patient status and equipment malfunctions
  • Manage time effectively and anticipate workflow changes
  • Demonstrate patience and professionalism when interacting with patients, families, medical staff, and hospital personnel
  • Respond to highly charged emotional situations, such as cardiac arrests
  • Perform routine, repetitive, and physical tasks, including pushing wheelchairs, carts, and other heavy equipment

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Prior experience in a healthcare setting in a support role preferred
  • Prior experience with patient transfers and assistive equipment desired
  • Experience with hospital computer information systems preferred
  • Basic office experience with telephones, copier, and fax machine preferred
  • Ability to hear high-pitched or low-pitched sounds and ordinary conversation
  • Good near vision
  • Good general health necessary to stand and walk most of the day
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet hospital demands

Working Conditions

  • Frequent close contact with ill patients, including lifting or aiding patients in walking
  • Intermittent exposure to unpleasant conditions
  • Potential exposure to confused or combative patients
