About the role

Texas Children’s is seeking a Nurse Transplant Coordinator (RN) - Lung Transplant Services to support the care of transplant patients and their families. This role involves coordinating all aspects of transplant care, including evaluations, presentations to the medical review board, and post-transplant follow-up.

Responsibilities

  • Completes pre-transplant evaluations and prepares for medical review board meetings.
  • Coordinates with the transplant multidisciplinary team to facilitate the evaluation process for potential transplant candidates and living donors.
  • Interprets serological results and shares implications with the transplant team.
  • Obtains recipient blood type, tissue typing, and cytotoxic antibodies according to transplant center protocol.
  • Educates transplant recipients and their families about the entire transplantation process.
  • Shares information about the donor organ with the transplant surgeon/physician and coordinates transportation of teams/organ.
  • Maintains comprehensive documentation of donor and recipient information and monitors patient progress post-transplant.
  • Verbalizes understanding of standing orders and acts as a resource for healthcare providers.
  • Informs recipients of their right to communicate with the donor family and coordinates discharge planning.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in nursing, associate’s degree, or technical diploma in nursing with acceptance or current enrollment in a BSN program, or an associate’s degree in a related field accepted by the Texas Board of Nursing for the purposes of obtaining and maintaining an RN license.
  • Experience: 2 years ICU experience, 2 years pediatric or solid organ transplant nursing experience, RN License by Texas Board of Nursing or Nurse License Compact, CPR – Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of cardiothoracic pathophysiology and the transplant process, ability to demonstrate and perform generic and unit-based/critical competencies, positive interpersonal skills, flexibility, excellent organization skills, and self-starter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified in Transplant, CPN, CCRN.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $80,000 annually.

This role is full-time with standard business hours.
