Transplant Coordinator II, RN - Liver Acquisition - Full Time 8 Hour Days (Exempt) (Union)

About the role

This home-based position provides 24/7 rotating on-call coverage (including nights, weekends, and holidays) as a Donor Allocation Transplant Coordinator II within the liver transplant program. The role focuses on deceased donor organ offer management, triage of patient calls, and coordination of organ recovery and placement across multiple transplant specialties.

Responsibilities

• Responds to deceased donor organ offers and facilitates acceptance or refusal of organs for transplant candidates.
• Coordinates organ recovery logistics with transplant surgeons, Organ and Tissue Donation Team, and Histocompatibility lab.
• Communicates sensitively with patients receiving organs and donor hospital staff.
• Triages after-hours patient calls and escalates to on-call physicians as needed.
• Manages complex logistical support for organ recovery and placement across renal, hepatic, cardiac, and respiratory failure populations.
• Demonstrates competence in immunosuppression management, including adverse reactions and drug interactions.
• Maintains compliance with UNOS policy and CMS regulatory requirements for organ allocation, waitlist management, and patient status updates.
• Performs UNOS responsibilities such as listing, delisting, disease transmission reporting, donor culture report management, and status updates for all solid organs.
• Enters and retrieves patient data in Cerner and UNOS platforms; accesses UNOS database for donor information.
• Participates in collaborative, interdisciplinary research and process improvement activities related to transplant patients.
• Provides consultation and education to support transplant standards of care and discharge planning.
• Performs related responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited school OR Associate’s degree in Nursing with BSN conferred within two years of hire.
• Five years of documented clinical experience as a transplant coordinator.
• Registered Nurse (RN) licensed in California.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association.
• Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) required within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal.
• Certified Clinical Transplant Coordinator (CCTC) or Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator (CPTC) from ABTC; if CPTC certified, must obtain CCTC within three years of hire.
• Excellent communication skills in English (verbal, written, and reading proficiency).
• Knowledge of medical procedures and conditions, including whole blood collection and apheresis procedures.
• Prior experience taking organ offer or donor call.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $151,424.00 – $246,605.00. The final offer will consider scope of responsibilities, experience, education, internal equity, and market considerations.

Schedule

Full-time, 8-hour day shift with rotating on-call responsibilities requiring nights, weekends, and holidays.
