About the role

This position is for the role of a Modeling Engineer in the Ratings & Configuration (R&C) team within the Transmission System Operations Engineering (TSOE) organization. The role entails supporting the activities necessary to ensure compliance with applicable NERC and industry standards related to configuration changes to the transmission grid.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately model transmission system topology including impedance and facility ratings for lines, stations, and transformers for medium, high, and extra-high voltages using AEP-internal modeling databases.
  • Fulfill various system modeling related requests from Engineering and Operations personnel and submitted via ServiceNow ticketing system.
  • Collaborate with others internal/external to the team to model planned projects, representing the future transmission system, as needed.
  • Perform activities related to NERC Compliance standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum Requirements – Grade 6: New graduates with a bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program*, passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination, as preparation for future licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE), is encouraged and preferred.
  • Minimum Requirements – Grade 7: Has typically acquired 2 or more years of related experience in work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering technology principles; Bachelor's degree in engineering technology* in a program accredited by ABET**.

Qualifications

  • Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination, as preparation for future licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE), is encouraged and preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering technology* in a program accredited by ABET**.
  • Acceptable alternative is (1) a Bachelor's degree in engineering technology (non-ABET) plus a Master's degree or PhD in engineering technology from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program.

Skills

  • Possesses entry-level knowledge and experience in the application of theory to solve well-defined problems or provide analysis, with guidance from higher-level engineers.
  • Assists higher-level engineers in handling well-defined portions of more complex problems and analyses.
  • Gains familiarity with standards, codes and regulations relevant to the area of assignment.
  • Gains familiarity with pertinent equipment, materials, systems and business processes.

Pay

Compensation Grade: SP20-006
Compensation Range: $74,551.00 - $109,543.00
