About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. The selected candidate may be offered a position within the same job family, at a level that is lower than what was posted. This will be determined based upon the results of the interview process which considers the candidate's skills, work history, experience level, and other relevant qualifications.

Transmission Schedulers are responsible for maintaining the reliability of the Bulk Electric System during planned and unplanned outages. Employees at the entry level of this job family apply acquired education and experience to work situations and exercise independent judgment on basic projects and assignments. They provide support to management and higher level professionals.

Location: Akron OH or Fairmont WV

Responsibilities

  • Processing switching requests submitted by regions or project teams
  • Analyzing outage requests for contingencies, reliability impacts, overloads, or switching limitations
  • Maintaining compliance with PJM outage coordination requirements
  • Coordinating outages with internal and external sources
  • Modeling scheduled outages in EMS/RTS to identify contingencies and/or overloads
  • Providing solutions to scheduling concerns
  • Writing procedures for taking equipment out of service, restoring service and test energizing
  • Provide support to Operators regarding switching controls
  • Provide technical support to control centers
  • Administration of databases used to support the control centers
  • Preparing scheduling reports for operating companies
  • Supports emergency and storm response activities, including extended-hour operations

An employee hired at the Transmission Scheduler II or III level will be expected to perform all of the above responsibilities with more proficiency, and in a more independent manner. Further, the Transmission Scheduler II or III level employee will be assigned additional responsibilities related to those above:

  • Recommend and implement improvements to work processes
  • Recommend and implement solutions to moderately complex issues and assignments

Qualifications at the Transmission Scheduler I Level

  • Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical field is required
  • 0-2 years of related experience is required. Related experience may include experience in technical writing, scheduling, maintenance, or operations
  • Works safely according to company policies and procedures
  • Basic understanding of Transmission System Operations procedures, policies, practices
  • Strong written and oral communications skills required
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills required
  • Strong analytical abilities involving complex problems; exercise sound judgment
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Ability to learn the Energy Delivery Outage application, Transmission Outage database, EMS, Microsoft Office, SORS, eDART, FileNet
  • Deliver quality, accurate work within established deadlines

Qualifications at the Transmission Scheduler II Level

Includes all the above plus:

  • Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical field is required
  • 2-3 years of related experience is required. Related experience may include experience in technical writing, scheduling, maintenance, or operations
  • Strong understanding of Transmission System Operations procedures, policies, practices
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent analytical abilities involving complex problems; exercise sound judgment
  • Proficient in Energy Delivery Outage application, Transmission Outage database, EMS, Microsoft Office, SORS, eDART, FileNet

Qualifications at the Transmission Scheduler III Level

Includes all the above plus:

  • Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical field is required
  • 3-4 years of related experience is required
  • In-depth understanding of Transmission System Operations procedures, policies, practices
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Excellent analytical abilities involving complex problems; exercise sound judgment
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Technical expert in Energy Delivery Outage application, Transmission Outage database, EMS, Microsoft Office, SORS, eDART, FileNet

Qualifications at the Transmission Scheduler IV Level

  • Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical field is required
  • 5-6 years of related experience is required. Related experience may include experience in technical writing, scheduling, maintenance, or operations
  • Works safely according to company policies and procedures
  • In-depth understanding of Transmission System Operations procedures, policies, practices
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent analytical abilities involving complex problems; exercise sound judgment
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Technical expert in Energy Delivery Outage application, Transmission Outage database, EMS, Microsoft Office, SORS, eDART, and FileNet
  • Deliver quality, accurate work within established deadlines
